Description: 
Abnormal plasma cell with two, pale blue-staining nuclear inclusions. Both are Dutcher bodies, i.e. intranuclear cytoplasmic invaginations . Why or how such invaginations occur is not known.They are usually – but not always – PAS positive.
Comment: 
Why inclusion(s) should be colored varying shades of blue in this case undoubtedly relates to the staining characteristics of the cytoplasm of the cell under consideration. Nuclear perforations associated with cytoplasmic invaginations may serve as windows into underlying cytoplasm. The color of the cytoplasm of the cell under consideration would then almost certainly be identical to that of the Dutcher body. By this reasoning, darker blue Dutcher bodies (yet to be shown) should occur in cells with darker-staining cytoplasm, lighter in lighter-staining cells.
