Ward 33

Case Slide No.:
4
Type:
MARROW SMEAR
Description:
In this field are 4 myeloma cells, one with a larger and more immature nucleus than the others. A moderate-sized nucleolus is clearly visible in this cell. Minor differences in cell size between myeloma cells are common. There is nothing morphologically unique about IgM myeloma cells.
Comment:
The myeloma cell on the far right offers a sharp contrast to the other three. Its chromatin is more dispersed revealing at least one fairly conspicuous nucleolus. Its cytoplasm is also more immature than that of the others. The dominant form in this case however is a mature myeloma cell.
